Academics & Programs

Independence High School students observe, question, explain and interpret everyday. We guide students to be active learners who reflect on their growth as they analyze the world.

Stack of textbooks

Independence High students have a wide range of program opportunities to participate in before, during, and after the school day.  Whether a club, sport, activity, or theater production, there is something for every Indy Eagle

Planning Guides & Course Offerings

All courses listed in the Program of Study require a sufficient number of student registrants in order to be offered during the year.  If there is not sufficient interest in a particular course, it may not be provided during the upcoming year.  Many of the classes have recommendations that are listed prior to the course description.

School Scheduling Policies

Independence High School follows a schedule which allows students to take six credits and a directed study each year.  With teacher/counselor recommendation and course availability, students may take an additional class for a total of seven credits per year.

Students are expected to take the classes for which they have registered.  Changes in schedules will be considered only under special circumstances.  All students requesting a class change must fill out the Class Change Request Form and obtain the permission of a parent, teachers, a counselor, and an administrator.  Students will not be allowed to enter full-year courses at the end of the first semester unless they are making up deficiencies.  Students who drop a course after the third week of the semester may receive a zero for that class in that semester.
